Zamalek Official Praises Libya Visit Ahead of Testimonial Match
Egyptian giants Zamalek have lauded the reception they received in Libya ahead of Friday’s testimonial match for Libyan football legend Khaled Hussein.
The Cairo club arrived in Benghazi on Wednesday to face local side Al-Nasr in Hussein’s farewell match at the Martyrs of Benina International Stadium.
“The warm welcome reflects the strong bonds between Al-Nasr and Zamalek, and more broadly, between Egypt and Libya,” said Ahmed Suleiman, Zamalek board member and head of delegation, speaking to local media after Thursday’s training session.
Suleiman expressed confidence in the match organisation, highlighting the efforts made to ensure the visiting team’s comfort.
The friendly fixture marks a rare visit by a major Egyptian club to Libya, which is gradually returning to hosting international football events.
Khaled Hussein, whose career is being celebrated, is considered one of Libya’s most influential footballers, though his playing days coincided with a difficult period for Libyan football during international isolation.
