Uber has launched ‘Uber by Woman,’ a new service that pairs female drivers with women passengers in Paris, France. The initiative, introduced Thursday, aims to enhance safety and comes at no additional cost to riders.

The ride-hailing company warns that wait times may be longer for this service, averaging 15 minutes compared to four minutes for standard rides, due to the current pool of approximately 1,500 female drivers.

The service launch follows concerns about passenger safety and is part of Uber’s broader European expansion plans. Female drivers retain the option to decline rides from male passengers, and the app includes regular reminders that the service is exclusively for women riders.

“Uber by Women is an excellent way of increasing the attractiveness of the ride-hailing profession to women who would otherwise not consider it,” said Laureline Serieys, Uber’s head of operations in France.

The initiative represents Uber’s latest effort to address safety concerns and expand its driver base. The company operates globally, providing ride-hailing, food delivery, courier, and freight transport services.
