US diplomat meets Benghazi mayor in Tunis
The US is stepping up its engagement with Libya, with a senior diplomat meeting the mayor of Benghazi in Tunis on Wednesday.
Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt, who recently visited Benghazi, praised efforts to revive the economy and rebuild after years of conflict. He said the US was committed to strengthening ties with people across all regions of Libya.
The meeting comes as the US seeks to play a greater role in supporting stability and reconciliation in Libya. While the US embassy remains in Tunis, this meeting signals a renewed effort to engage with key figures across Libya.
