UN voices support for bettering conditions in southern Libya
UN misision to Libya officials on Monday stressed support for southern Libya, said the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in a statement.
Deputy head of the UNSMIL Maria do Valle Ribeiro, and Stephanie Williams, deputy special representative of the UN secretary general for political affairs in Libya, made the remarks in a meeting with Ahmed Matko, mayor of Ubari, some 1,100 km south of the capital Tripoli.
The two UN officials addressed deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions in the city, the statement said.
“UNSMIL is committed to strengthening its assistance to the south and encourages Libyan authorities to further their support to the region,” the mission said.
