UN envoy to Libya fails to tell truth behind UAE meeting
The United Nations’ envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, has somehow forgotten to check his tweets inventory before making a new claim about the UAE meeting between Fayez Al-Sirraj – the Head of the Presidential Council – and the commander of the self-styled army Khalifa Haftar.
Salame told Libya Al-Ahrar TV Channel that the meeting in Abu Dhabi was out of the blue – at least for him – adding that Haftar was there to have medical checks and Al-Sirraj was on a formal visit then they met by chance and the same chance happened to have him (Salame) attend the meeting.
However, Salame – in the opinion of many Libyan activists – has told a very cheap lie as he announced on February 28 on the UNSMIL’s Twitter and Facebook pages that the meeting in Abu Dhabi was held upon his own invitation.
“SRSG Ghassan Salame hosted a meeting between Head of PC Fayez Serraj & LNA Commander Khalifa Haftar in the UAE where both agreed on the necessity of ending the state of transition in Libya through general elections & on ways to safeguard stability & unify institutions.”
So the question here is, why would Salame bother lying about the hosting of the meeting? Is there something the Libyans should know about the meeting in the UAE and its true motives?
