UN envoy to Libya discusses return to political process with GNA officials
The Head of the UN Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame met Tuesday in Tripoli with the Head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord Fayez Al-Sarraj and the Deputy Head Ahmed Maiteeq.
UNSMIL reported that the GNA officials and Salame discussed the latest developments and ways to return to the political dialogue.
It explained that during the meeting with Maiteeq, Salame was briefed on the recent visit to Washington and what Maiteeq discussed in there.
UNSMIL added that they discussed the humanitarian situation in Tripoli including the relief efforts.
“They also discussed ways to revive the political process.” UNSMIL further explained.
Tripoli has been under attack by Khalifa Haftar’s forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, UAE, France and Egypt, for the last two months with estimated numbers of deaths increasing to over 650, injuries over 3500 and displaced over 90.000, according to the World Health Organization.
