U.S. Ambassador intervenes as tensions rise in Yefren
U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland met with Wahida Al-Hashan, a representative of the Supreme Council of the Amazigh of Libya, to address escalating tensions in the western city of Yefren.
During the talks, Ambassador Norland expressed optimism for a peaceful resolution to the crisis, according to a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Libya. The diplomat emphasised the importance of continued dialogue between all parties.
Meanwhile, residents of Yefren and surrounding municipalities have issued warnings to Libya’s political leadership regarding military developments in their region.
In a public statement, they called on Presidential Council head Muhammad Al-Menfi and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba to address concerns about armed groups allegedly linked to military commander Osama Juwaili operating in the area.
