On 19 April, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary Easter ceasefire until midnight Moscow time (21:00 GMT) on 21 April during a meeting with Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff. Putin called on Kyiv to follow suit. Gerasimov subsequently issued orders to Russian forces involved in what Russia terms its “special military operation” to observe the truce, which began at 18:00 Moscow time (15:00 GMT) on 19 April.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Sunday that the Easter ceasefire would expire tonight with no instructions from Putin to extend it.
