Tripoli forum calls for prioritising reconciliation efforts

Dignitaries and tribal elders gathered in Tripoli on Wednesday for a high-level forum convened by the Presidential Council (PC), signalling broad support for national reconciliation efforts.
The assembled leaders endorsed the PC’s initiatives to heal divisions within the country, whilst celebrating recent successful municipal elections as evidence of Libyans’ growing appetite for democratic stability.
Building on this momentum, forum participants called for swift progress towards parliamentary and presidential elections. However, civil society representatives emphasised that certain foundational steps must come first.
These representatives outlined a detailed roadmap, arguing that the PC should prioritise both the national reconciliation process and implementation of a transitional justice law.
Only then, they maintained, should Libya proceed with its comprehensive national conference, parliamentary elections, constitutional referendum, and presidential elections to ensure an orderly transfer of power.
