Tripoli Football Clubs Demand Reform Amidst Ongoing Crisis
Major football clubs in Tripoli have taken a decisive stance against the Libyan Football Federation amidst the country’s ongoing crisis. In a joint statement, prominent clubs including Al Ahli Tripoli, Al Ittihad, and Al Madina condemned the Federation’s decisions and called for sweeping reforms.
The clubs have suspended all sporting activities and are demanding the resignation of the current Federation leadership, emphasizing the need for new elections and a vote of no confidence. They also insist on the approval of local stadiums and the return of fans to matches.
This move comes in response to a press conference held by the First Vice President of the Libyan Football Federation,Khamis Adam, who presented a roadmap and requested a General Assembly by October 15th.
Libya has been in turmoil since the 2011 uprising, with the country divided between rival administrations and facing a significant humanitarian crisis. The conflict has also impacted Libya’s oil-dependent economy and led to the delay of planned elections.
Despite a ceasefire, security concerns persist with sporadic fighting and the presence of foreign forces. The unification of the military and the removal of these forces remain crucial challenges for the country.
