Libya hosts regional intelligence chiefs summit
Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba has hosted the first conference of regional intelligence leaders, emphasising that Libya will not become “an arena for settling regional conflicts.”
Speaking in his capacity as Defence Minister, Dabaiba called for regional coordination against security threats and stressed that Libya seeks stability while facing significant challenges.
He added that neighbouring countries must adapt to regional transformations to enhance cooperation against terrorism and smuggling.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, Chief of General Staff, urged enhanced intelligence cooperation, while Major General Mahmoud Hamza, Military Intelligence Director, identified terrorism, drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, and illegal immigration as primary challenges facing the region.
The conference drew participation from several neighbouring countries. Tunisia’s Habib Al-Daif emphasised the need for enhanced intelligence capabilities, while Chad’s Ibrahim Adam called for quick responses to regional threats.
Algeria’s Mahrez Jeribi highlighted cross-border crime concerns, and delegations from Sudan and Nigeria focused on information exchange and refugee cooperation.
