Quadrilateral meeting on Libyan political conflict convened in Cairo
Arab league Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, United Nations Special Envoy Martin Kobler, chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki, and the European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini met in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday to discuss solutions to the Libyan political situation.
The meeting aimed to discuss the raging conflict in war-ridden Libya and it began with a closed session between the four, according to an Anadolu Agency.
Earlier this month, Abul-Gheit said contacts were underway to hold a quadrilateral meeting to accelerate peace efforts in Libya.
Libya is still totally divided with three governments vying for power – one in Tobruk to the east and two in Tripoli to the west as the country remains mired in factional fighting and lawlessness.
