Presidential Council issues statement on Audit Bureau dispute

The Presidential Council of Libya released a statement on Wednesday addressing the ongoing disagreement between legislative bodies over appointments to the Audit Bureau presidency.
In the statement, the Council called on the House of Representatives and the Council of State to “quickly resolve their differences and reach an urgent consensus on the appointment of sovereign positions in accordance with the political agreement and its annexes.”
The Council indicated it might take unspecified measures if the situation remains unresolved, stating: “We may be forced to take steps to address shortcomings if the stalemate and delay in implementing national obligations continue, and we will not stand idly by.”
Expressing concern over what it termed “unjustified escalation through unilateral steps,” the Council warned such actions “could undermine the relative stability the country is experiencing.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Council’s “commitment to completing the implementation of the roadmap for a comprehensive political solution, particularly with regard to unifying sovereign institutions within a specific timeframe.”
The Audit Bureau serves as Libya’s main financial oversight body. The dispute over its leadership comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilise governance structures in the country.
Neither the House of Representatives nor the Council of State had issued a formal response to the Presidential Council’s statement as of press time.
