Presidential Council and IOM agree on more support in immigration issues
The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Serraj, met Wednesday in Tripoli with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing, to discuss the ever-developing issue of illegal immigration and human trafficking in Libya.
The meeting discussed all the facets of the illegal immigration issue, whether economic, humanitarian and social as well as political, going through the IOM’s programmes that aim at assisting Libya to overcome this phenomenon.
They also talked about the support of the IOM in repatriating the trapped illegal migrants to their countries of origin and the support it is providing for the centers of immigrants in Libya.
Al-Serraj expressed to the IOM chief the rejection of Libya to the proposals of setting up permanent refugee and migration camps for immigrants in Libya.
“We call for the return of the IOM staff to Libya as the political conflicts will never hinder the work of the humanitarian organizations in Libya.” Al-Serraj told the IOM chief.
