The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini expressed the need for a ceasefire and a halt of Tripoli offensive so the parties can go back to the UN-led political process.

Mogherini’s remarks came in a meeting with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj in Brussels before the EU’s Foreign Minister meeting, which will be discussing the issue in Libya.

She also stressed that there is no military solution in Libya.

In the meantime, Al-Sirraj also expressed the need for the EU to assist Libya by naming the attacking forces by their true name and by having a unified stance regarding this war.

“The more the war is prolonged the more destructive it will be and it will also expand to affect not only Libya, but also all of the region.” Al-Sirraj said, according to his media office.
