Menfi calls for referendum to resolve election disputes

Presidential Council Head Mohammed Menfi addresses state officials and diplomatic representatives during a ceremonial Iftar banquet in Tripoli, outlining Libya’s path to electoral reform and national stability

Libya’s Presidential Council Head, Mohammed Menfi, has advocated for a transparent referendum as the most effective solution for resolving contentious electoral issues, describing it as “the best and fastest way” to proceed toward elections.

Speaking at an Iftar gathering in Tripoli, Menfi outlined key priorities including maintaining stability, unifying security forces under civilian control, promoting development, fighting corruption, protecting human rights, addressing migration challenges, and preventing institutional division.

The high-profile event drew attendance from government officials, regulatory and security chiefs, military commanders, ministers, ambassadors, and various social figures.

Regarding international relations, Menfi highlighted the importance of coordination with the United Nations and allied nations in implementing Security Council resolutions. He expressed expectations for the UN mission’s advisory committee to deliver fresh approaches to disputed electoral law provisions, hoping they would avoid “outdated and unrealistic ideas.”

Menfi concluded his address by emphasising Libya’s critical position at a crossroads, urging all stakeholders to fulfil their responsibilities in guiding the nation toward stability. He stressed that continued support from international partners remains vital for securing Libya’s future during this challenging period.
