Meloni: stability in Libya is critical to Rome
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Thursday that stability in Libya is a crucial issue for Rome, adding that Italy contributes to the debate on the constitutional basis to renew the legitimacy of the Libyan authorities and to address the flow of illegal immigration to Europe.
Meloni said in a press conference on Thursday that her discussions with the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush, as well as with US President Joe Biden focused on this issue.
The Italian Prime Minister explained that Italy could play a leading role in the Mediterranean and maintain its relationship with all sides, especially China, Russia and Turkey. It could also be Europe’s gateway to the energy produced in Africa.
