LPDF holding virtual sessions this week to discuss outcomes of Bridging Committee proposals
Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to hold a virtual session this Wednesday to address the possible outcomes of the BPC proposals
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) stated that on August 11, it would arrange a virtual meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to discuss the results of the LPDF’s Proposals Bridging Committee (PBC).
UNSMIL further said that the meetings would address the next steps after the completion of the Committee’s discussions on July 16, 27, 30, and 31 and on August 2, which resulted in four suggestions for the constitutional foundation for the elections on December 24.
In a letter to the LPDF, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ján Kubi communicated the four recommendations of the PBC’s constitutional foundation.
Special Envoy Kubi noted in his letter to LPDF members that the Committee had also reached an agreement on a voting mechanism and reiterated that “in considering any proposals, it is necessary to fully respect the requirement that none undermines your promise to the Libyan people to hold elections within the timeline set by your Roadmap.”
