Libya’s SSA seizes massive illegal alcohol stockpile
Libyan authorities have dismantled a significant illegal alcohol smuggling operation in Tripoli, seizing hundreds of litres of illicitly produced spirits.
The Stability Support Apparatus’s Investigation Department arrested a suspect, identified only as A.M.A, following a surveillance operation that tracked shipments from the Al-Ajaylat region to the capital.
Officers seized 560 litres of locally distilled alcohol stored in 28 twenty-litre containers, along with an additional 129 litres distributed across 86 smaller bottles.
The suspect was apprehended whilst allegedly attempting to sell the contraband alcohol. Investigators say the operation was part of a wider crackdown on illegal substance trafficking in the region.
A spokesperson for the department said: “The suspect has been taken into custody and the case has been referred to the public prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings.”
The seizure marks one of the largest alcohol busts in Tripoli this year, where the production and sale of alcohol remains strictly prohibited.
