Libya’s Dar al-Ifta urges Eid donations to Gaza

The Council for Islamic Research and Legal Studies, which operates under Libya’s Dar al-Ifta, has issued an appeal for Muslims in Libya and internationally to direct their Zakat al-Fitr donations towards Gaza, citing the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Council highlighted the critical shortages of essential supplies including food, water and medicine in Gaza.
The Council based their guidance on established Islamic jurisprudence, referencing teachings from Imam Malik and Imam Abu Hanifa that permit the redistribution of Zakat to communities facing greater hardship.
They also cited historical precedent from early Islamic history, where the Companion Mu’adh ibn Jabal redirected charitable donations from Yemen to Medina to assist those experiencing difficulty.
The statement emphasised the importance of Muslim solidarity and referenced traditional Islamic rulings that support redirecting charitable contributions to areas experiencing severe food shortages and extreme poverty.
Muslims have been encouraged to channel their Zakat al-Fitr through verified organisations before Thursday, which marks the 27th day of Ramadan, to ensure timely delivery to those in need.
The Council concluded their statement by expressing solidarity with Gazans and offering prayers for those affected by conflict and hardship throughout the world.
