Libyan eastern commander arrives in UAE after alleged victory in Benghazi
The commander of the Operation Dignity forces in eastern Libya – which is backed by the House of Representatives – Khalifa Haftar, arrived Saturday evening in Abu Dhabi and met with the Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, Mohammed Ben Zayed.
According to pro-Haftar media, he went to the UAE on a formal visit to discuss with the Emirati officials the joint relations and the latest in Libya.
Haftar visited Abu Dahbi early this year when he met with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Serraj.
Haftar announced on July 05 what he called a victory over Islamists and “IS” fighters in the last hideouts of Sabri and Sooq Al-Hooth in Benghazi and declared it fully liberated.
However, on Saturday many airstrikes and fighting with medium and heavy weapons took place in Kharabish neighborhood in Benghazi between Haftar’s forces and his opponents; mainly from the Benghazi Shura Council.
