Libya set to host major Islamic educational summit in 2025
Libya has secured its position as host for a significant gathering of Islamic nations focused on educational and cultural development.
The country will welcome delegates from across the Islamic world for the 45th session of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) Executive Council in Tripoli come January 2025.
The agreement was formalised in Rabat, Morocco, through a signing ceremony between Mohamed Amari Zayed, Libya’s Permanent Representative to ICESCO, and Salem Al-Habsi, Director of ICESCO’s General Secretariat. During the ceremony, Al-Habsi expressed strong confidence in Libya’s capacity to successfully host the high-level meetings, which will feature a special consultative session addressing both opportunities and challenges facing the Islamic world.
“We are fully committed to providing all necessary resources and support to ensure these meetings are a success,” declared Amari Zayed, emphasising Libya’s dedication to its hosting responsibilities.
The Executive Council serves as ICESCO’s primary oversight body, bringing together representatives from all 53 member states annually. These gatherings play a crucial role in steering the organization’s direction, as council members evaluate and approve various performance reports and action plans put forward by ICESCO’s General Directorate.
The selection of Tripoli as the host city marks a significant moment for Libya, positioning it as a key contributor to educational and cultural development in the Islamic world.
The upcoming session is expected to foster stronger collaboration among member states while addressing pressing challenges in education, science, and culture across the Islamic world.
