Libya’s SSA Libya graduates new officer class

The third cohort of SSA officers stand at attention during their graduation ceremony, marking the latest expansion of Libya’s specialised security force.

The Stability Support Apparatus (SSA), one of Libya’s key security forces, celebrated the graduation of its third cohort of non-commissioned officers in a ceremony at the Specialised Training Institute earlier this week.

The event, which showcased military displays and combat demonstrations, drew senior officials including Brigadier General Musa Masmos, Deputy Head for Public Affairs, and Brigadier General Abdul Salam Al-Masoudi, Director of the Apparatus Affairs Office. Representatives from the Internal Security Service, alongside departmental directors and graduates’ families, were also in attendance.

Graduates demonstrated their expertise in advanced security sciences, highlighting the force’s growing capabilities in maintaining stability across Libya’s diverse terrain. The ceremony featured demonstrations of tactical operations and security protocols, reflecting the comprehensive training programme’s scope.

The SSA, established in 2021 through Presidential Council Decision No. 38 under the Government of National Accord, serves as a specialised security force with broad responsibilities.

These include protecting state facilities and officials, securing official events, conducting counter-terrorism operations, managing civil disorder, and coordinating emergency responses.

The organisation’s mandate extends to joint operations with other security agencies and participation in combat missions when necessary.

The force is also authorised to work alongside judicial authorities in arrest operations and leads initiatives to promote security awareness and weapon control amongst the public.

This graduation marks a significant step in the SSA’s ongoing efforts to professionalise Libya’s security sector, reinforcing its role in maintaining national stability and coordinating inter-agency security operations.
