Libya, AU discuss reconciliation progress
The Presidential Council of Libya, led by Mohamed Al-Menfi, convened with an African Union delegation headed by AU President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazwani i in Tripoli.
The meeting centered on Libya’s national reconciliation process and included discussions on progress, challenges, and potential solutions.
The African Union reiterated its support for Libyan-led reconciliation, national unity, and stability, referencing its February 2024 decision and the Brazzaville Call. Both emphasise the need to address external interference in Libya’s affairs.
Al-Menfi acknowledged the AU’s role in supporting Libya and highlighted the country’s connection to the African continent. He expressed gratitude for the contributions of the Congolese President, the African Union Commission, and President El-Ghazwani.
The Presidential Council affirmed its neutrality in Libya’s internal conflicts and its commitment to engaging all parties in the reconciliation process.
Al-Menfi emphasised the importance of national partnership and domestically driven solutions. He also welcomed the African Union’s plan to host a meeting in Addis Ababa for Libyan stakeholders involved in the reconciliation process.
