The Council of Sharia Research and Studies at the Libyan Fatwa House in Tripoli has declared Sunday as the last day of Ramadan, with Monday to be observed as the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

Libya’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadiq al-Ghariani, confirmed that it was not possible to sight the Shawwal crescent moon, which marks the end of Ramadan and beginning of the next Islamic month.

In a parallel announcement, the Supreme Fatwa Committee of the government appointed by the House of Representatives also stated that the Eid al-Fitr crescent moon had not been sighted. They likewise declared Sunday the final day of Ramadan and Monday the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

These announcements put Libya in alignment with several other countries in the region regarding the Eid timing. Egypt, Syria, and Jordan have also announced Monday as the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

However, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Palestine had previously declared Sunday as the first day of Eid al-Fitr, highlighting the variation in moon-sighting declarations across different Islamic authorities in the region.
