Libya and China discuss strengthening cooperation and resuming projects

In a recent meeting, the Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mossa Al-Koni, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Libya, Liu Jian, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.

The meeting focused on the return of Chinese companies to resume work on projects that have been suspended for years and the coordination to reopen the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli.

Ambassador Liu Jian reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for the Presidential Council’s efforts to achieve stability in Libya.

The two officials also explored the possibility of establishing mechanisms for prisoner exchange between the two countries, allowing them to serve their sentences in their respective nations, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Al-Koni emphasised the strong bond between Libya and China, highlighting the cooperation agreements that link them in various fields, particularly in the economic sector.

He expressed optimism about the active role Chinese companies will play in the near future, investing in crucial sectors such as oil, construction, renewable energy, and railways.

The meeting underscores the commitment of both Libya and China to strengthen their bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation.

The resumption of Chinese projects in Libya is expected to contribute to the country’s economic growth and development, whilst the reopening of the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli will further facilitate diplomatic ties between the two nations.

As Libya continues to work towards stability and economic recovery, the support and involvement of international partners like China remain crucial.
