Italian official: Terrorists among migrants arriving in Italy from Libya
An Italian Senator said the Palermo General Prosecutor confirmed that there are terrorists arriving in Italy onboard boats coming from Libya.
“Terrorists are spilling to southern Europe from the immigration route from Libyan shores.” The Italian official was cited as saying.
Italian Aki news agency also quoted Roberto Calderoli, the Head of the Italian Senate, as saying that since three years, their government has been trying to make this point; “that there are terrorists among immigrants coming to Italy via the Mediterranean, especially from Libyan beaches.”
According to the Italian official, Palermo General Prosecution also revealed that there is a network of human smugglers that are sending secretly certain dubious immigrants from Tunisia to Sicily.
Libya has been a hub for illegal immigrants and migration and human smuggling work from the beaches of the coastal cities to Italy, leading to numerous deaths due to drowning incidents in the Mediterranean since 2011.
