Italian Interior Minister in Tripoli for talks over illegal immigration as 4100 migrants rescued off Libyan shores
4100 illegal immigrants were rescued off Libya’s coast on Wednesday, the Libyan Coast Guard said on Thursday.
The Libyan Coast Guard added that it had coordinated 20 operations.
On Wednesday, Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, said after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron that progress on migrants was “insufficient”.
Macron said France had not always done its bit but insisted that economic migrants could not be treated like refugees.
Interior Minister Marco Minniti is in Tripoli today to see mayors from the south of the country to help cooperate in securing the source of the immigration influx – the southern Libyan border.
