ITA Airways set for Libyan return after aviation authorities reach agreement
ITA Airways is poised to resume flights to Libya following an agreement between the Italian and Libyan civil aviation authorities.
The announcement came after a meeting on Wednesday between Libyan transport minister Mohammed Al-Shahoubi and a delegation of Italian officials, including Italian ambassador Gianluca Alberni, the president of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, and ITA Airways director Andrea Benassi.
Although a firm date for the resumption of flights has yet to be announced, Benassi confirmed that arrangements were in place for ITA Airways to return to Libyan airspace. Al-Shahoubi welcomed the move, praising the strengthening of Libyan-Italian relations and highlighting the collaborative efforts undertaken by both countries’ aviation authorities to facilitate ITA’s return.
Prior to the meeting, the Italian delegation, which included representatives from ITA Airways and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, conducted a thorough inspection of Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, with a focus on safety and security procedures.
This development represents a significant step in the restoration of regular air links between Italy and Libya.
