Israeli forces kill Palestinian man in occupied East Jerusalem
Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in occupied East Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Saturday after he allegedly carried out a stabbing attack.
Locals filmed and posted videos on social media platforms showing Israeli forces shooting directly the man at a point-blank range, while he was lying on the ground injured from a previous gunshot.
The Palestinian man was identified as Mohammad Salima, 25, from Salfit city.
Israeli police sources said he was allegedly involved in a stabbing attack that left an Israeli man, in his 20s, moderately wounded. He then attempted to stab an Israeli officer, according to the sources. He was shot and injured at this point.
The videos that surfaced online, showed that the Palestinian man posing no imminent threat after his injury, which left him lying on the ground. He was then approached by two Israeli occupying forces, who shot at him twice, before killing him, according to the videos.
Israeli emergency services said the injured Israeli man was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in the city in a “moderate condition”.
Following the shooting, Israeli police dispersed Palestinians nearby, attacking them with tear gas and stun grenades.
Israel captured the Old City and other parts of East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed them in a move not recognised internationally.
Since then, some 475,000 Jewish settlers live in the occupied West Bank, which is home to more than 2.8 million Palestinians.

Jewish settler violence has since become part of Palestinians’ daily life under occupation. Israeli security forces enable these actions, which result in Palestinians casualties – injuries and fatalities – as well as damage to land and property.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have shown”appalling disregard for human life” by using reckless and unlawful lethal force against Palestinians, according to rights groups.
Amnesty International has repeatedly urged an end to the “worrying rise in unlawful killings by Israeli forces, fostered by a culture of impunity”.
