Iran denies Musk meeting with UN envoy
Iran has categorically rejected reports that its United Nations ambassador met with technology entrepreneur Elon Musk, with senior officials dismissing the claims as “fabricated”.
Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly refuted American media reports, including those in The New York Times, which had claimed Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani held an hour-long meeting with Musk in New York.
“This was a fabricated story by American media, and the motives behind this can also be speculated upon”, Araghchi told Iranian state television on Saturday, reinforcing an earlier denial from Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
The deputy minister suggested the reports might have been an attempt to test potential diplomatic channels. “We are still waiting for the new US administration to clarify its policies, and based on that, we will adjust our own positions”, he said.
Araghchi emphasised that any such meeting would require explicit approval from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, adding that “neither the timing nor circumstances were appropriate” for such diplomatic engagement.
