ICC urges for immediate arrest of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi
The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, ICC, on Wednesday called for the arrest and surrender of Saif Gaddafi.
Saif is wanted on war crimes charges for allegedly suppressing opposition to the rule of his father, former Libya ruler Muammar.
On Sunday, Saif’s lawyer said his client had been released under an amnesty law passed by parliament from prison in the eastern Libyan town of Zintan, where he had been held since 2011.
ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda in a statement called on Libya and other states to arrest Saif.
Saif Gaddafi was released by a Zintani armed group – Abu Bakir Al-Sidiq, days ago and his whereabouts are still unknown.
Some reports also said that Saif Gaddafi is staying with his uncles from his mother’s side in Tobruk, eastern Libya.
Saif was pardoned by the eastern government as per an amnesty law last April.
