Human trafficking suspect caught transporting migrants in Libya

The Stability Support Apparatus has arrested a human trafficking suspect while transporting migrants from Tripoli to Zawya, according to a press release published on their website.
The suspect, a Libyan national residing in Zawya, approximately 48 kilometers west of Tripoli, was apprehended while moving three undocumented migrants. The press release states he is part of a criminal gang involved in bringing, transporting, and harbouring illegal migrants.
According to the Investigations and Evidence Gathering Department, the gang operates in cooperation with partners in Pakistan. Migrants reportedly pay $3,500 each and are brought to Libya through Benina International Airport before being gathered in Tripoli. From there, they are sent on boats attempting to reach European Union countries.
The investigation has led to the identification of other gang members, with one additional arrest made. Authorities continue searching for the gang’s leader, the statement indicates.
Legal measures have been taken, and the arrested individuals have been referred to the competent prosecution for further action.
This case represents part of the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking operations that use Libya as a transit point for irregular migration to Europe.
