HoR speaker, UN envoy meet on unity push

UN-Libya talks focus on breaking political deadlock

Acting UN Special Representative Stephanie Koury met with Libyan House of Representatives Speaker Aqila Saleh at his Al-Gubba office on Monday to discuss political cooperation.

Saleh confirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to the existing political agreement and 6+6 Committee outcomes, stating these initiatives aim to resolve political division.

Koury reported ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue between parties and align different positions.

The meeting addressed the unification of executive authority and government formation. Both parties identified these steps as prerequisites for conducting presidential and parliamentary elections.

The discussions centered on maintaining cooperation between the House of Representatives, the UN mission, and the international community.
