GNA Defence Ministry says unfamiliar with Italian mission to southern Libya
The Defence Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) denied knowing anything about the Italian mission that is believed to be sent to Libya’s southern region.
Mohammed Al-Ghosri, the spokesman of the ministry said on a Libyan local TV channel that the matter has been given extra attention by the media in Italy, adding that there is nothing on the ground, adding that the Presidential Council is familiar with the mission.
Likewise, The joint Libyan-Italian operations room of the Government of National Accord has denied the news circulated by Aki news agency that the GNA and Italy agreed on building Italian military camps in southern Libya.
Aki said on Friday that an EU-sponsored project is going to see Italy sending a military mission to monitor Libya’s southern region.
The head of the room, Tarek Shanbour said that Aki mistranslated the final statement of the meeting between the Libyan-Italian committee for combating illegal immigration in Rome last Friday.
