Ghanaian named UN Libya envoy
The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Hanna Serwaa Tetteh as his Special Representative for Libya and Head of the UN Mission, following Russia’s withdrawal of its previous objection to her appointment.
Diplomatic sources report that Moscow has lifted its earlier formal objection to Tetteh’s nomination, which had been submitted to the United Nations, clearing the way for her to assume the leadership role.
Tetteh brings significant diplomatic experience from her recent UN positions. She served as the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa from 2022 to 2024, and previously held the position of Special Representative for the African Union from 2018 to 2020.
Prior to her UN career, Tetteh served in senior positions in Ghana’s government, including serving as Attorney-General from 2014 to 2015 and Minister of Foreign Affairs between 2013 and 2017.
