Germany opens new embassy headquarters in Tripoli

The German Embassy has inaugurated its new headquarters in Tripoli’s Janzour area, according to a Thursday statement from the Libyan Foreign Ministry. The move has been characterised as reflecting Berlin’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence in Libya, following the resumption of operations in the country on 9 September 2021.
Acting Foreign Minister Taher El Baour attended the opening ceremony at the invitation of the German Embassy. During the event, Baour expressed the Tripoli government’s appreciation for this development, emphasising its commitment to providing necessary support to diplomatic missions operating in Libya. He noted this would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting stabilisation efforts.
The Foreign Ministry added that the opening of the new embassy headquarters affirms the importance of Libyan-German relations and demonstrates Berlin’s commitment to supporting Libya both politically and economically, while enhancing cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
