Egyptian and Jordanian leaders reaffirm shared Gaza policy

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II met on Wednesday to discuss Gaza reconstruction efforts, emphasising their shared commitment to maintaining Palestinian residency in the territory.
In official statements, both governments underscored their position against any forced relocation of Palestinians. The meeting followed King Abdullah’s discussions with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday.
The Egyptian presidency stated that both leaders focused on rebuilding Gaza “without displacing the Palestinian people from their land”. Similarly, the Jordanian royal court emphasised their “shared position” on maintaining Palestinian residence.
Both nations expressed willingness to engage with the US administration towards establishing regional stability. However, they maintain firm opposition to proposals involving Palestinian relocation to neighbouring countries.
Egypt announced plans to host a regional summit addressing Gaza’s future later this month, where it will present proposals for reconstruction whilst preserving Palestinian residency rights.
The discussions occur amid broader diplomatic exchanges about Gaza’s future. Egypt and Jordan, which receive significant US foreign assistance, have historically played key roles in regional peace initiatives.
When asked about potential aid adjustments on Tuesday, King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan’s position, stating, “This is the unified Arab position”. Egypt plans to detail its reconstruction framework at the upcoming summit.
