Amid escalating conflict in Lebanon, a German warship participating in the UN peacekeeping mission (UNIFIL) has shot down an unidentified drone off the coast.

The incident occurred early Thursday near the town of Naqoura, with the German corvette “Ludwigshafen am Rhein” utilising its defense systems to neutralise the drone.

While the origin and model of the drone remain unconfirmed, it has raised concerns given the heightened tensions in the region and recent Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers.

A UNIFIL spokesperson stated that electronic countermeasures were employed, causing the drone to crash and explode. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
