Disease control center confirms no human rabies cases in Libya

The National Center for Disease Control has confirmed the absence of human rabies cases in Libya, while addressing recent animal infections in Al-Asabaa.

According to reports from the Animal Health Center, two sheep were infected in December after being bitten by a cattle dog. Officials confirmed these cases were handled and the animals buried under specialist supervision. The affected herd remains under quarantine and monitoring.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Daghis, member of the center’s Scientific Committee, noted that while some animals in the Western Mountains showed symptoms requiring investigation, no human cases have been recorded.

Addressing other health matters, Al-Daghis reported stable COVID-19 conditions with no new variants detected, though influenza cases are widespread. The national flu vaccination campaign has been extended until March end, with elderly people, pregnant women, children, and medical staff particularly urged to get vaccinated.
