Derna Shura Council recognises 5 foreign workers’ bodies killed by IS terrorists
The Derna Shura Council said Monday that it had recognised five bodies of foreign persons who were killed by Islamic State (IS) terrorists when they were in the city in 2015.
The council said in a statement that the recognition of the bodies came after they examined the belongings alongside them, finding a laptop for a Czech man who used to work at Al-Ghani oilfield and was reported as kidnapped by IS in Sirte.
At the time, news reports said that 9 foreign workers were abducted by IS, including the Czech worker.
“We have came to a conclusion that the five bodies belonged to the foreign workers (nine ones reported missing at the time) who were killed by the terror groups of IS.” The Derna Shura Council added.
It also said that they are working on the procedures that will allow them to repatriate the bodies to their families.
Meanwhile, Derna Shura Council found the bodies with their hands tied in June 2015 after it had defeated IS and kicked it out of the city. The bodies were handed over to the Libyan Red Crescent and were then registered as unidentified.
