CBL governor meets with global finance leaders
The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), Naji Issa, recently attended the IMF’s annual meetings in Washington DC, where he took the opportunity to engage with prominent figures in the international finance sector.
He held separate meetings with Kenji Okamura, Deputy Executive Director of the IMF; Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department; and Mehmet Şimşek, the Turkish Minister of Finance. These discussions centred on the CBL’s current position and future plans.
Governor Issa outlined his vision for the CBL, highlighting key areas he intends to address. These include matters relating to liquidity, exchange rate stability, regulation of the foreign exchange market, and the expansion of electronic payment systems within Libya.
He also stressed the importance of developing a medium-term economic strategy for the country, with the aim of harmonising economic policies and achieving financial stability and sustainability.
In addition, Governor Issa participated in a meeting of African Central Bank Governors with IMF Executive Director Kristalina Georgieva, where he presented his vision and priorities for the CBL.
