A shipment of 800,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China arrived in Tripoli, increasing the total number of doses supplied to Libya to 3,281,052 doses from four different brands.

Another cargo of 500,00 doses of Oxford’s AstraZeneca and the US’s Pfizer is scheduled to arrive soon, according to Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dabeiba.

The Prime Minister urged Libyans and residents to visit vaccination centres since it was the only way to prevent the spread of this deadly virus.

In addition, Mr Ali Al-Zanati, Minister of Health, said that as a result of government initiatives, including a partial ban and important preventive measures, the proportion of new viral infections has dropped from 68% to 24%.

He also told the public that 432 vaccination centres had been created across Libya and that the Ministry of Health had carried out extraordinary vaccine campaigns in more than one city.

In a similar vein, the Prime Minister recently said that if the country’s health situation deteriorates, Libyan citizens would be required to be vaccinated in order to travel and visit hospitals.

The head of government stated that the country could no longer afford to lose more lives, which meant that the Government of National Unity might take drastic measures to obtain the community immunity, such as not allowing citizens to travel or be treated in hospitals without it, which could make the vaccine mandatory for young people, adults, and athletes.
