Al-Sagheer: Dbeibeh will sacrifice State Council to stay in power
In a scathing rebuke of Libya’s interim leadership, a high-ranking government official has accused Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibeh and Presidential Council head Muhammad al-Manfi of seeking to consolidate power in the capital at the expense of national unity.
Hassan al-Saghir, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the interim government, took to Facebook to denounce what he described as a blatant attempt to marginalise key political institutions.
He argued that Mr al-Dbeibeh and Mr al-Manfi’s purported plans to dissolve the House of Representatives and the State Council would effectively render those bodies powerless outside Tripoli.
The accusations underscore the deep fissures within Libya’s fragile political landscape, threatening to derail the already faltering efforts to establish a unified and democratically elected government.
Mr al-Saghir’s comments paint a grim picture of a nation teetering on the brink of further instability, with political actors prioritising personal ambitions over the national interest.
