Foreign Affairs Minister Abdul Hadi Al-Huwaij of Libya’s eastern-based government declared on Thursday that Libya shall not serve as “Europe’s policeman” on migration matters, during a roundtable at the University of Benghazi, organised by the Ministry and the African Migration Studies Laboratory (LemAfriQ), our correspondent reports.

The gathering centred on implementing the Benghazi Declaration on Migration, with Al-Huwaij calling for the establishment of a development fund and Euro-African employment agency to better manage migration flows.

“Development partnerships amongst nations, not security measures alone, are the genuine solution,” Al-Huwaij said, emphasising the necessity for Mediterranean cooperation and sustainable approaches to address the root causes of migration.

The roundtable, which covered four principal discussion points, concluded with delegations praising the ministry’s hospitality whilst pledging continued cooperation on sustainable migration solutions.
