Al-Hawaij: Our bread does not contain “Potassium Bromate”
The Economy Minister Mohamed Al-Hawaij, stated that the results of the analysis of the bread and flour samples in Germany confirmed the ministry’s earlier statement that Potassium bromate was not present in the flour and bread samples.
Potassium bromate is a food additive that can help bread dough hold together, but some studies have linked it with cancer in animals.
Al-Hwaij stated in a televised statement that Potassium bromate has been prohibited on the local market since 2005, again denying the presence of the substance on the market.
Libya’s Center for Food and Drug Control reported that the results of the analysis of flour and bread samples in German laboratories showed that they were free of Potassium bromate.
