Al-Ashi calls for an end to Europe’s air embargo on Libyan flights

Libya’s new EU ambassador, Jalal Al-Ashi, has met with Henrik Hololei, Director-General for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission.
Al-Ashi told Libyan Express that the meeting focused on measures for lifting the air embargo on Libyan flights and compliance with EU requirements and Libyan participation at the meeting of Transport Ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean countries.
A new Libyan air carrier based in Malta, MedSky Airways, began offering charter flights from Misurata to Malta last year despite the ban on Libyan airlines from EU airspace. The airline owned by Mohamed Taher Issa – a Libyan businessman..
As of 2014 all Libyan airlines were added to the EU Air Safety List and are banned from operating in European airspace.
