Airport stranding gives Nigeria 3-0 win

Following a dispute during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier earlier this month, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria a 3-0 victory over Libya.

The decision comes after Nigeria’s national team reported experiencing unsatisfactory conditions upon arrival in Libya. Their flight landed at an unstaffed airport, where the team stated they were left without basic provisions for over 20 hours. This led to the team’s decision to return home without playing the scheduled match in Benghazi.

In response, the CAF disciplinary committee ruled that Libya must forfeit the match and pay a $50,000 fine.

This result puts Nigeria in a strong position to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
