AFRICOM Commander arrives in Tripoli to discuss current conflicts
The Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Thomas Waldhauser, has arrived in Libya’s capital. Tripoli on Tuesday.
Waldhauser was received by the Head of the Presidential Council (PC), Fayez Al-Serraj, and a number of the PC members.
AFRICOM Commander will be reviewing the Libyan political and military conflicts with the officials of the Government of National Accord, which is supported by the US among other countries in the international community.
Al-Serraj and Waldhauser have met twice before when the former visited the AFRICOM Command Headquarters in Germany.
AFRICOM took part at the request of the Presidential Council in the war on IS in Sirte alongside the forces of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous, which finally eradicated IS militants from the city last year.
Waldhauser’s soon-to-take-place visit will be the first visit for an American official to Libya after the killing of the American Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, along three other Americans in the attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi by armed groups in 2012.
