Presidential Council warns of coordinated attacks on oil fields by ISIS and Gaddafi loyalists
The UN-backed Presidential Council has warned in a statement Sunday of possible attacks on oil fields by ISIS militants in coordination with armed forces loyal to former dictator, Muamar Gaddafi, and African rebel groups, such as Justice and Equality, aiming to control the oil fields in Libya.
The PC considered such acts as an attempt to spoil the ongoing accord in Libya by controlling the source of Libyans’ money to use it against the GNA. However, the PC warned that it won’t allow such thing to happen.
The PC also urged the UN and the International Community to help Libya and its governmental security departments that are protecting the oil fields and ports to secure the oil sector against terrorism and illegitimate bodies, asking them to assume their responsibility toward Libya.
